HOW TO FERTILIZE SOIL WITH EGGSHELLS – A lot of people think that spreading eggshells on your soil is an old wives tale, however the fact is the eggshells provide valuable nutrients to the soil. So if you want to fertilize your soil using eggshells the guide below explains how.
Step 1
Save the egg shells when you use eggs for your cooking and baking. Most often or not we simply throw the eggshells away without another thought but these do provide a number of nutrients that your plants will benefit from. The average sized family uses about 2 dozen eggs a week so this is a good and very cheap way to create fertilizer.
Step 2
Take a plastic bag, one that is clear is better, so that you can see how well the egg shells are crushed without having to keep opening the bag to check.
Step 3
You can crush the eggshells with a rolling pin simply by rolling it back and forth over the bag, or just effectively using your hands. You need to crust them so they are in fine pieces, but not to the point where they are just dust.
Step 4
You can save these in a separate container until you have sufficient to mix in with your potting soil or you can simply spread these over your compost heap. Egg shells are an excellent addition to either your potting soil or compost heap so whichever you choose it will be an excellent contribution to the soil in your garden.
There are many things you can do to help improve the soil quality in your garden and adding eggshells, as a fertilizing agent is just one small part.
