You can buy Lagging Jackets, that wraps around the hot water tank to help reduce heat loss and therefore energy and money.
Did You Know?… A good quality lagging jacket can save you 60% of the heat loss which is an impressive saving. In this guide we show you just how easy it is to fit a lagging jacket to your hot water tank.
Step 1
Take a trip to your local DIY Store and purchase a hot water cylinder jacket. Buy one that offers the best insulating properties. You will find a range of lagging jacket but it’s important that you buy one that will save the most in heat loss. Note that this unfortunately will not be the cheapest but it will save you far more money in the long run and you should notice that your boiler does not have to kick in so often to keep the water warm. Think of all that lovely money you can save!
Step 2
Lagging jackets can consist of panels or a one piece jacket. You will find the manufacturers fitting instructions on the packaging, but don’t worry – they all pretty much fit the same way and this is a job that can be completed in less than 10 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the lagging jacket from the packaging and wrap this around the hot water tank.
Step 4
Thread the tie straps through the eyelets, top and bottom and then secure by tying a knot.
Step 5
If your package contains a third strap then wrap this around the middle of the lagging jacket and tie a knot to secure it.
Step 6
IMPORTANT - DO NOT over tighten the lagging jacket or compress it around the hot water tank, as this will reduce its ability to reduce heat loss. Again do read the fitting instructions that came with your lagging jacket.
