HOW TO FIT WASTE PIPES – Fitting waste pipes, for instance waste water traps under sinks and baths, is a relatively straight forward job that most people can handle with ease. In this guide we provide you with practical advice on how to fit your waste plumbing pipes together.
Fitting Waste Pipes – Push Fit Joints
Step 1
Push fit joints cannot be solvent welded but can be re-used simply by replacing the seal.
Step 2
Take a hacksaw and cut the pipe. To get a square cut get a sheet of paper and wrap this around the pipe then simply cut following the edge of the paper.
Step 3
Remove any sharp or rough edges of the pipe with a fine to medium grade sand paper or knife.
Step 4
Clean the pipe inside and out, making sure to remove any dust, grit or grease.
Step 5
Take the locking ring connector and loosen it and check the rubber sealing ring is in place.
Step 6
Apply silicone grease to the end of the pipe.
Step 7
Push the piping together. Remember to leave a small expansion gap for pipes carrying hot water and tighten the locking ring.
Fitting Waste Pipes – Solvent Joints
Step 1
Solvent joints should only be used in places where you are not going to have to remove the. For waste traps and elbow it’s recommended you use Push Fit Joints.
Step 2
Take a hacksaw and cut the waste pipe. To get a square cut get a sheet of paper and wrap this around the pipe then simply cut following the edge of the paper.
Step 3
Remove any sharp or rough edges of the pipe with a fine to medium grade sand paper or knife.
Step 4
Clean the pipe inside and out, making sure to remove any dust, grit or grease.
Step 5
Apply solvent welds to the ends of the pipe and push together.
Step 6
Clean off any excess solvent weld and leave to dry.
