How To Hammer Small Nails Without Hitting Your Fingers

HOW TO HAMMER SMALL NAILS WITHOUT HITTING YOUR FINGERS – Many DIY jobs involve the use of a hammer and nails. Sometimes the use of very small nails, such a pin nails, is required.

The question here is; how many times have you tried to hold a small nail without hitting your thumb or fingers?  It’s a fact that nearly all of us, at one time or another, has accidentally hit their fingers with the hammer instead of the nail, which results in a very painful experience shortly followed by some very unsavory language – it’s amazing the number of names you can call a hammer!

In this guide we’ll show you a real simple tip that will prevent you from ever having to hit your fingers with the hammer again.

Method 1

 Step 1

Take a strip of paper. Any type of paper will do.

 Step 2

Push the nail through the strip of paper.

 Step 3

Adjust the nail so that it sits straight.

 Step 4

Holding the paper, and not the nail, place the nail on the piece of wood or other material.

 Step 5

Hammer the nail 1/2 way in- you will notice that your fingers are at least a few inches from the nail.

 Step 6

Once the nail is in the wood tear the paper off and hammer the nail home – job done and not sore fingers or thumbs.

Method 2

 Step 1

Take a strip of cardboard and cut a slot in one end.

 Step 2

Place the nail into the slot so that the head of the nail is flush with the cardboard.

 Step 3

Holding the cardboard and not the nail, position the nail in place and hammer.

 Step 4

Once the nail is firmly into the wood slide off the cardboard and hammer the nail home.

 Step 5

Note that this method can also be used with a Hair Comb if you do not have a piece of cardboard.
