HOW TO MAKE A GARDEN PRIVACY SCREEN – Sometime the fences in our gardens simply don’t provide much in the way of privacy but there is a solution and that is to make one, two or more privacy screens that you can position anywhere in your garden.
Privacy screens are not just useful for adding a little more privacy but also add as great wind breakers, so if your patio or decking area suffers from just a little too much wind then building these and installing them will certainly help.
Privacy screens can be built any size, both height and width that you require. Just remember that the height of any structure is sometimes regulated by local planning authorities so do check to see if you need permission first.
Once you decide on the size of your privacy screens, you now need to think about the design. Basically the privacy screen consists of three supporting timbers, two sides and a top. The part in the middle is where you can get really creative – you can create slats or a diamond trellis pattern for example.
When you have determined the size and the design you can then go to your local Timber Merchant or DIY Store and purchase all the timber that you need. Nearly all good Timber Merchants and DIY Stores will cut the timbers to the measurements you have, making the job much easier.
Just remember that when it comes to assembling you need to use the right screws for outdoor use – this way they won’t rust. If in doubt ask the staff at your local DIY Store for advice.
Whenever you are building or making anything, it is best to have a clear plan and lay out all the components that you will be using. Remember, take your time and you will end up with some really nice privacy screens for your garden.
