How to Replace a Tap

HOW TO REPLACE A TAP – Replacing a tap on a sink or a bathtub is a great way to give your kitchen or bathroom a fresh new look at very little cost and to replace a tap is a very simple DIY job. Note carefully that if you are considering replacing a tap simply because the tap is dripping, then you can save yourself a lot of money by simply replacing the tap washer. In this useful guide we’ll show you how easy it is to replace a tap with easy to follow, step-by-step, instructions.

 Step 1

Make sure you turn the water supply off. Under the sink check to see if there is a Ball Valve on the two pipes, one that connects to the Hot Water and one that connects to the Cold Water. If there are Ball Values then turn these to a Horizontal Position using a screwdriver.

 Step 2

It is wise to turn the water off at the main stop cocks. Again turn both the Hot and Cold values off.

 Step 3

Open the tap to allow any water in the pipe to drain. When no water comes out of the tap you can start to disconnect the fitting from the pipes under the sink or bathtub.

 Step 4

From under the sink or bathtub locate the nuts that secure the pipes to the tap fitting. Unscrew these using a wrench and spanner.

 Step 5

You can now remove the tap fitting from the sink or bathtub by undoing the fixing plate that holds the tap in place that is situated under the sink or bathtub.

 Step 6

Insert your new tap and connect the Hot and Cold pipes and tighten with your wrench and spanner.

 Step 7

Secure the tap fitting from under the sink or bath using the fixing plate.

 Step 8

Open the Ball Valves and Stop Cock Values and turn on the tap to test everything is working ok.
