HOW TO USE AN ELECTRIC PLANER – Like all electrical power tools, the electric planer can be a dangerous piece of equipment. In this guide we help you learn how to use an electric planer plus provides its uses depending on the types of jobs you need to do.
Step 1
Take your piece of wood and anchor it down to a work bench using clamps or a vice. If you own a workmate this is ideal. You need to make sure that the wood cannot move while you are working on it
Step 2
Adjust the depth setting you want. If you are taking off a lot of wood consider cutting it with a saw first or work in sections with the planer.
Step 3
Plug your planer into a circuit breaker for additional safety. When holding the planer, it is a good idea to drape the cabling over your forearm. This will help keep the cable out of the way while you are working.
Step 4
For safety reasons make sure you are wearing protective Eyewear. Working with electrical tools can be dangerous enough but having a wood shavings fly in your eye can have serious consequences – so put on your goggles!
Step 5
Grip the handle in one hand and the knob at the front of the planer with the opposite hand. Make sure you have a firm hold of the planer before introducing it to the wood surface.
Step 6
Place the planer firmly on the wood and depress the trigger and then move the planer back and forth, making sure you maintain a firm grip.
Step 7
Depending on how much wood you are shaving off and the depth you set the blade, check the required level every one or two back and forth rotations. Once you have the desired amount shaven off then make sure you turn the planer off and unplug it.
