Indoor Water Walls

INDOOR WATER WALLS – Can anyone tell me why the sound of a dripping tap drives us crazy, while the sound of moving water is a soothing sensation?  Umm, never quite figured that one out, maybe someone has a scientific explanation that only they alone are privy to.  Share if you can, I’d love to know.

It is a fact that most people find the sound of flowing water appealing to the senses and water features, incorporated into the interior design, can certainly make the living space very comfortable and appealing.

When you close your eyes and imagine a water feature in your home, most people generally tend to err on the small water fountain features that are readily available in most DIY and Garden Stores.  However, these take up space, so have you ever thought about a Water Wall?

Over the years I have seen some stunning examples, but to be honest it is not often I walk into a home and find a Water Wall and yet these can be incredibly beautiful and make a wonderful alternative to a painting or a picture as you can create a moving, almost living, piece of art on the wall.

The really great aspect of a Water Wall is that you can create one to fit any size of wall.  A Water Wall doesn’t necessarily have to be from floor to ceiling either, it can sit high on a wall, low on a wall or in the middle of a wall.  This is one piece of art that can be tailored to your exact requirements and will certainly add a very unusual element to your interior design.

Of all your friends and family members, how many of them have a Water Wall?  The chances are there aren’t any as these stunning creations are surprisingly few and far between.

Take the example above – you can see that this is in a commercial setting, however, if you have an Open-Plan home design, this type of water wall would make for a stunning addition and would act as a way to break up the space while still retaining it’s open-plan look and feel due to the transparency of the glass and water.

Lighting can make a water wall really come to life at night and providing the lighting is well thought out the result will be a sparkling cascade of moving art for you to enjoy.

I really love the example above as it goes beyond just glass and water with the wonderful design of the Willow Tree.  There is absolutely no reason why you cannot take your creative design further by having the glass etched with any design you like and then turning that into a water wall.  For more information see my article on Glass Etching for a Unique Interior Design

Stunning stand-alone water wall as a center piece.

As I said earlier, it is not that often you come across a home that has a water wall, which is a little sad, because these works of art do not have to be expensive to build, the maintenance is relatively low and the level of enjoyment you can have from one, is everlasting.  One thing is for sure, anyone visiting your home would certainly make a comment and it would probably inspire them to add a water wall to their own interior design.

Maybe people associate them more with commercial design. I would be concerned about maintenance and cost. I love the tree water wall, though.

Yes, I’ve seen water walls many times in commercial settings but few times in homes. I’m not sure about the maintenance or cost for installing one – I guess this would really depend on the size you wanted to install. Thanks for the comment Miriam.

I’d love to see a waterwall with a backdrop like we recently printed on 12×12 tiles, as seen below. Although these custom printed tiles were ceramic for a shower installation, we would produce them in porcelain for a waterwall, due to porcelain’s low moisture absorption.

      Hi Mitch
Thanks for the picture of the tiles. These are really unique and yes, they would make an excellent backdrop for a water wall.
You’re welcome to leave a URL link for folks here to take a look at your website if you have one. Would like to see more of these tiles.

      Thanks
