Making a Floating Photo Frame
It’s nice to have unusual items in your home as it is these little touches that gives your home that personal mark and with photo frames you can do so much. Buying a photo frame and hanging your picture is easy enough but why not take a little time out and make your own photo frame?
You might be thinking that making a photo frame is a little complicated, what with having to mitre the corners, but in this project you don’t go to that length – it’s actually very easy!
In the video below you can learn how to make a floating photo frame – that is you will end up with the illusion that the picture is floating in between the glass and the backing plywood. The things I really like about this project is that it’s really cheap and very easy to do, as you’ll see from the video.
To complete this project you will need:
- Acrylic Sheet
- 1″ Corner Stands – complete with nut and bolt
- Wood Glue
- 1″ x 1″ Timber Baton
Great Tip: During the video you will be told that the only tricky part of this project is drilling through the Acrylic Sheet, as acrylic is brittle and likely to crack. When you mark your corners for drilling try placing some masking tape over the pencil marks. As advised, DO NOT drill too fast but more importantly make sure you have the Hammer Action on your power drill turned OFF.
Watch the video below, it starts off with some examples in order to provide you with some inspiration. I think making a floating photo frame is a neat idea and a great way to add real style to the photos in your home and certainly a wonderful way of displaying all of your friends and family members around you.
