Publishing Rules

Rule No.1 Relevancy

Your article must be relevant to the Home and Garden. We DO NOT accept articles regarding commercial premises or anything that is not relevant to the Home and Garden.

Rule No.2 Word Count & Web Links

Your article MUST contain a minimum of 400 words to be considered for publication.  Any articles submitted below 400 words will be discarded. You may include ONE link within your article.

Rule No.3 Readability

Your articles must be written with the correct use of English Grammar.  Any articles submitted with poor levels of English Grammar and Spelling will NOT be published.

Rule No.4 Article Content and Links

Please include images in your article that are appropriate to the content. You must have either copyright over any images you use or have permission to use them.

Our reader’s like to see visual representations of what the article is about.  Therefore the use of images, video and infographics is essential to making up an outstanding article.  It is NOT a requirement to include video or infographics however our Reader’s Panel noticeably provide high ‘Star Ratings’ for those articles that do include these features.

Important Points:

1.  Your article must be unique. We check for duplication on the web and any such breach of this rule will result in the immediate termination of your account.

2.  You may produce an article that promotes a particular product or service but please make the article useful and remember your article undergoes a reading by one or more of our actual readers – if they don’t like it, it’ll get rejected.

We understand that you want to gain traffic from your efforts and therefore we provide you with the ability create a single link to your website or blog.  This is a great way to create a back-link.

IMPORTANT:  Our system is designed primarily to drive traffic. We investigate all links to ensure that they are relevant to the article and ensure we are not linking to a website or blog with little or no domain authority or PageRank. We may at our discretion tag any link with a rel=nofollow attribute.

3. Account & Database Maintenance

Nobody likes a website with out-of-date and irrelevant information and therefore every 12 months we assess each account and the content within it.  Note that if your account is left dormant for more than 12 months we will delete it along with any articles you have published.

It is your responsibility to maintain your account and include fresh and interesting content.

Will My Article Get Featured on the Monthly Newsletter?

We base our newsletter content on the Star Ratings that our Reader’s Panel has awarded.  In order for an article to be considered it must achieve a Star Rating of no less than 2.

Have you considered making an amendment to the link restriction relative to the word count? For example, 1 text link below the fold for 400+ words and 2 text links for 750+ words. It would help to encourage higher quality articles.

      Hi Tyler

Thank you for the comment. Your idea is in fact a very good one and one that we have been pondering for sometime. We are looking at a structured way in which to create a Two Tier article submission service that benefits those submitting articles to a greater level and in return provides our readers with even more great and helpful content.

We are currently consulting and researching our position, in order to provide greater quality content, as you rightly pointed out. Google recently updated its Panda Algorithm and while this had only a marginal effect on our rankings, it is clear that we need to do more.

Allowing articles, for the purpose of creating a back-link and driving direct traffic to the writers website or blog, does put us in a difficult situation, regarding Google, as it does not like us passing ‘Link Juice’ to sites it deems as low quality.

Again we are now looking at our position and how our current system of publishing content affects our overall rankings in Google. Obviously we need to structure any changes carefully so that our contributors still derive quantitative benefits from publishing on Hometipster.com.

We really appreciate your comment as this helps us enormously to get a feel of what people want, both contributors and readers. We have taken your suggestion and placed this within other points for consideration ( I promise you it has not been binned – it’s a great idea).

Once again Tyler, thank you for your comment and ideas.

      Regards

      Graham Briar
