HOW TO MAKE A WINDOW PLANTER BOX – It’s a fact that you can easily buy a window planter box in almost any DIY Store or Gardening Centre but will the selection available suit and fit the window just the way you want it to? That’s generally the problem – they are either too long, too short, too wide or too narrow.
So if you cannot find a window planter box to fit your dimensions what’s the simple solution? Make one yourself.
Making your own window box planter is a very easy carpentry project and it is not hard work. With the right set of DIY tools and some heavy duty plywood or timber you can knock one up yourself in less than an hour. I’ve actually made one myself and I saved a fair bit of money in the process and guess what? It fits perfectly because I made it.
If you think about this it is just about making a box, to any length, width and height that you require. When you have your measurements go along with these to your DIY store and get them to cut the timber to size – this will save you a bit of time and then it’s just a matter of screwing the box together, filling it with compost and potting soil and then planting your favorite flowers.
One of the best places to buy timber is at a Timber Merchants as it is so easy just to take along your measurement, no matter what project you are doing, and they will cut the pieces to your exact requirements. This saves a lot of time and effort in having to cut the timbers yourself – just remember you will need to supply the Timber Merchant with the EXACT measurement you require so double check your measurements before you go.
Neat Tip: If you have a very narrow space where making a window box out of timber is not really viable then try making a guttering flower box.
As usual I was trawling the web looking for a great little video guide that will show you how and came up trumps again. Here’s the video guide, enjoy and good luck with your project.
