BLACK AND WHITE INTERIOR DESIGNS – Would you consider a Black and White interior design color scheme? I think most people would shy away due to the impression that it’s simply too bland or too harsh. Certainly a black and white interior is a bold statement but these colors are extremely versatile and one that is too often overlooked by homeowners – but certainly not interior designers.
There is simply so much you can achieve with black and white and it doesn’t necessarily mean you end up with a ‘Bachelor Pad’ that very masculine. The great thing about black and white is that they are both base colors and neutral to other colors and therefore you can mix and match these to almost any other color you would like.
Let me give you an example. A friend of mine is very much into the contemporary interior design look. I too really like this type of design due to the space and clean lines it is synonymous for. We were discussing adding a striking feature to a wall in with the remit of Black and White. The idea was not to paint the wall, that was already an off-white but to add more of a striking effect. He finally came up with the idea of buying a large sheet of canvas, which he then framed. On the canvas he carefully constructed a ‘Barcode’ pattern and then hung it on the wall. He now has a really nice piece of art in the black and white theme and I can tell you it works extremely well. This is just one example of what you can achieve with a little imagination.
When it comes to interior design, the idea is to blend things together, therefore creating a flow of colors and textures that is pleasing to the eye and comfortable to live with.
I recently came across an excellent video that really does show that a black and white interior can be so much more than just hard contrasting colors that defines a space with brute force.
